The Mauger Family has been involved in the building and property industry in Christchurch for over 60 years. The building company built houses in most suburbs in the city over many years. These houses were and still are great family homes.
A shopping centre was established on the corner of Travis Road and Bower Avenue, this included, a grocers, butchers, chemist, library and stationers, Chemist, watchmaker, corner dairy, Post Office, hairdresser, barber, hardware, and Doctors Surgery. Together with across the road the garage and service station, Joinery factory, timber yard, laminate assembly, frame and truss factory.
Also Plunket rooms were built to provide a service for the new families in the area. A number of industrial factories were built in Bower Avenue as well as Travis Road. The original shops were replaced and a new modern shopping complex built with better access and parking facilities. All of the above were to service the rapidly expanding area of North Beach.
In the late sixties Maugers Contracting was formed, was involved in the earthworks with the development of QE2 stadium and park.
The contracting company was involved in building numerous subdivisions in and around Christchurch. This company has a large range of heavy equipment, and has a team of 25 professionals. Specialist equipment includes Elevating Motor Scrapers, 3 large German Machines that process environmental and green waste into useful material for industrial heating.
A mobile self batching concrete machine that that mixes and supplies the exact amount of concrete for each job on site. Industrial land was developed in the Woolston/Hillsborough area and a number of factories built. The large Northshore subdivision of 300 sections was started in 1990 and is just now nearing completion, with the unique beach front L4 now being available.
This L4 zoning allows for interesting and different designs to be applied, with a height limit of 15 meters enabling buildings of up to 5 stories to be built. The company is now embarking on a project at Maddison Park at Templeton. This 160 acre block of land will hopefully be designed as a business Park, with the existing amenities being made available to the residents and people working and visiting the site. It is intended that he park like atmosphere will be maintained and be an asset to the Christchurch community.
